The 82-PM-41 was the Red Army's standard battalion mortar of the mid-war years, a redesign of the 82-BM-37 fielded from 1941 to speed and cheapen production. It swapped the earlier model's separate wheeled carriage for wheels that slipped over the bipod's leg stubs and were removed before firing, and used an arched base plate borrowed from the larger 107mm and 120mm mortars. A four-man crew could put down 15-25 bombs a minute out to just over 3,000 meters, and the weapon saw heavy use at Moscow, Stalingrad, and Kursk, though its firing platform proved less stable than the 1937 pattern it replaced and was itself superseded by the Model 1943.
