The AT-6 Texan (Navy SNJ, RAF/Commonwealth Harvard) was the standard advanced single-engine trainer used to bridge pilots from primary instruction to frontline fighters and bombers. Roughly 15,000 were built, and it was flown by dozens of Allied air arms, teaching the handling, gunnery, and instrument skills needed before a pilot moved on to combat types. Its distinctive design and widespread use made it one of the most recognizable training aircraft of the war, and it remained in military service for decades afterward.
