Brixia Model 35
light infantry mortar
The standard light mortar of Italian infantry companies, the Brixia Model 35 was unusual for firing its 45mm bombs by trigger rather than a fixed firing pin, giving a trained crew a useful rate of fire. Its small warhead fragmented poorly and delivered limited destructive effect, so despite being issued on every major Italian front from North Africa to the Balkans and the Eastern Front, it was never highly regarded by the troops who carried it.
