The Imperial Army's standard landing craft, the flat-bottomed Daihatsu (Large Motorboat) could beach itself and lower a bow ramp to land a single light tank, seventy troops, or ten tons of cargo directly onto a hostile shore. It first saw combat landing troops behind Chinese lines at Shanghai in 1932 and went on to carry out virtually every Japanese amphibious landing of the Pacific War.
