Dido-class cruiser

anti-aircraft light cruiser

Purpose-built anti-aircraft cruisers, the Dido-class ships bore the brunt of the Luftwaffe's onslaught escorting Malta convoys and the evacuation from Crete, where several of the class were sunk or badly damaged in the face of overwhelming and unopposed German air attack.
