Nicknamed 'the Flying Pencil' for its slender fuselage, the Do 17 was a fast, twin-engined bomber that formed a core part of the Luftwaffe's Blitzkrieg force in Poland and France before proving too lightly armed and armoured for the Battle of Britain.
