The Soviet Navy's most numerous wartime destroyer class, officially Project 7 and sometimes called the Gremyashchy class after one of its ships, designed with licensed input from the Italian Folgore class and built from 1935. Of 53 ships ordered, 29 were completed between 1936 and 1942, armed with four 130mm guns and six torpedo tubes and capable of roughly 38 knots. They served across every Soviet fleet through the war, escorting Arctic convoys and bombarding coastal targets in the Baltic and Black Sea, with seven lost to enemy action; structural weaknesses in the original design prompted the improved Project 7U variant partway through construction.
