Heinkel He 219 Uhu
night fighter
The first operational aircraft fitted with ejection seats, the Uhu was purpose-built for night interception and outperformed every Allied night fighter it met. On its combat debut on the night of 11-12 June 1943 Werner Streib shot down five RAF bombers in a single sortie before crashing on landing, but production was capped at a few hundred by Luftwaffe politics.
