Shinano

Laid down as the third Yamato-class battleship, Shinano's hull was converted mid-construction into the largest aircraft carrier built up to that time, intended to resupply and repair other carriers rather than launch her own strikes. She was sunk just ten days after commissioning, on her maiden voyage, by four torpedoes from the American submarine USS Archerfish, the largest warship ever sunk by a submarine.
