Soryu

aircraft carrier

A fast, purpose-built fleet carrier, Soryu launched strikes at Pearl Harbor, Wake Island and Darwin before her aircraft helped sink two Allied heavy cruisers during the Indian Ocean raid. At Midway she was hit by American dive bombers within minutes of Kaga and Akagi and was scuttled the same day, one of four Japanese carriers lost in a single catastrophic battle.
