Taiho

Japan's first carrier built with an armored flight deck, Taiho was designed to survive hits that would have crippled her wooden-decked predecessors. A single torpedo hit from the submarine USS Albacore ruptured aviation fuel lines, and poor damage control let vapors spread through the ship; a massive internal explosion sank her during the Battle of the Philippine Sea on her first major deployment.
