flame-throwing tank
The KV-8 was a flamethrower variant of the KV-1 heavy tank, built to combine heavy armor protection with close-range incendiary firepower against fortifications and entrenched infantry. Its 76.2mm main gun was removed to make room for an ATO-41 flamethrower, and the smaller 45mm gun left in its place was fitted inside a dummy 76mm barrel sleeve so the vehicle still looked like a standard gun tank at a distance. A later KV-8S variant used the lighter KV-1S chassis with an improved ATO-42 flamethrower, and a two-flamethrower KV-8M reached only prototype stage.
