Leander-class cruiser
light cruiser
Shared by the Royal Navy, Royal Australian Navy and Royal New Zealand Navy, Leander-class light cruisers gave the Commonwealth's dominion navies their principal surface combatants of the war. HMAS Sydney of this class destroyed the Italian cruiser Bartolomeo Colleoni in a celebrated single-ship action in 1940 before being lost with all hands against the German raider Kormoran the following year.
