An improved M13/40 with a more powerful diesel engine intended to solve its predecessor's chronic desert engine failures, the M14/41 still suffered a fatal design flaw: its external fuel and ammunition stowage made it prone to catastrophic fires when hit. It formed the backbone of Italian armoured divisions at Alamein and was largely destroyed in the retreat to Tunisia.
