The M16 MGMC mounted an M45 Quadmount of four .50 calibre M2 Browning machine guns on an M3 half-track chassis, giving US forces a mobile, rapid-firing anti-aircraft weapon. White Motor Corporation built about 2,700 from May 1943, with several hundred more converted from earlier M13 and T10 carriages, for roughly 3,550 total. Nicknamed "the Meat Chopper," it saw heavy use in Italy and Northwest Europe, including during the Battle of the Bulge, and its withering fire was also turned on ground targets and infantry when air attack was scarce.
