M26 Pershing
heavy tank
Delayed for years by disagreements over doctrine, the Pershing finally reached front-line units in Europe in early 1945, just in time to give American tankers a gun that could actually kill a Panther or Tiger head-on instead of relying on numbers and flanking. Only a few hundred saw combat before the war ended.
