Macchi C.200 Saetta

fighter

Italy's first modern monoplane fighter, the radial-engined Saetta ('Lightning') was highly agile but underarmed with only two machine guns and outclassed in speed by contemporary Allied fighters. It was the most numerous Italian fighter of the war's early years, flying over Malta, Greece, the Balkans and North Africa.
