Macchi C.205 Veltro

Fitted with a licence-built Daimler-Benz engine, the Veltro ('Greyhound') was one of the finest Italian fighters of the war, a match for the P-51 Mustang and Spitfire in speed and firepower. It arrived too late and in too few numbers to change the campaign, entering service only months before the September 1943 armistice split Italy's air force.
