Small, fast wooden-hulled torpedo boats operated by the Regia Marina in coastal and inshore Mediterranean waters, MAS boats sank an Austro-Hungarian battleship in the previous war and carried that reputation into WWII harassing Allied coastal convoys and shipping in narrow waters like the Sicilian Channel and the Adriatic.
