Panzer 35(t)

light tank

Originally the Czechoslovak LT vz. 35, this light tank was absorbed into the Wehrmacht along with 244 examples seized when Germany occupied Bohemia and Moravia in March 1939. It equipped German panzer divisions during the invasions of Poland and France and the opening of Operation Barbarossa, but its pneumatic transmission proved unreliable in the Soviet cold and spare parts grew scarce, leading to its retirement from front-line service by 1942 in favor of its successor, the Panzer 38(t).
