Designed and commissioned during the First World War, the Queen Elizabeth-class ships were among the first fast battleships and formed the core of the Royal Navy's Mediterranean and home battlefleets into the Second World War. Warspite fought from Norway to Normandy, while Barham was sunk by a U-boat off Egypt in 1941 and Queen Elizabeth and Valiant were both crippled at anchor by Italian frogmen at Alexandria the same year.
