Sherman Firefly

medium tank / tank destroyer

A British field expedient that shoehorned the powerful 17-pounder anti-tank gun into a standard Sherman turret, the Firefly was the only Allied tank in Normandy that could reliably kill a Panther or Tiger frontally at normal combat ranges, making it a priority target German gunners were briefed to identify by its longer barrel.
