Solothurn S18-1000

Designed in Switzerland by Waffenfabrik Solothurn, a front company for the German firm Rheinmetall working around WWI-era arms restrictions, the S18-1000 was a heavy 20mm semi-automatic anti-tank rifle. Italy adopted it from 1940 as the 'Fucile anticarro S', filling a category otherwise absent from the Italian arsenal; its size and weight suited it best to vehicle and L3 tankette mounts rather than infantry carry, and it saw extensive use against light armour in North Africa.
