Sturmtiger

The Sturmtiger, officially the Sturmmörserwagen 606/4 mit 38cm RW 61, was a heavy assault gun built on rebuilt Tiger I chassis and armed with a massive 380mm rocket-propelled mortar adapted from a naval depth-charge launcher. Its rockets, weighing up to 376kg, were meant to demolish fortified buildings and strongpoints in urban combat; the distinctive ring of vents around the barrel let rocket exhaust escape safely. Only 18 were built, organised into three small companies, and they saw action at the Warsaw Uprising, the Ardennes offensive, and in the defence of the Rhine, including a rare tank-on-tank engagement against Shermans near Remagen in 1945.
