Tupolev Tu-2
medium bomber
Designed in part by Andrei Tupolev while he was still a prisoner in a Soviet aviation design bureau prison camp, the Tu-2 proved faster than many contemporary fighters and could carry twice the bomb load of the Pe-2. Production was slow to ramp up, but by the war's end it was regarded as one of the best medium bombers on either side of the conflict.
