Type 92 Armored Car

Despite its name, the Type 92 was Japan's first indigenous tankette, built for cavalry reconnaissance and infantry support and labeled an 'armored car' only because of a political rivalry that kept tanks under infantry-branch control. Lightly armored and armed with one or two machine guns, it served with the Kwantung Army in Manchuria and the Chosen Army in Korea, seeing action in the Second Sino-Japanese War before being superseded by the Type 94 tankette. 167 were built between 1933 and 1936 by Ishikawajima (Isuzu).
