M7 Priest

self-propelled howitzer

Mounting a 105mm howitzer on a Sherman chassis, the M7 gave artillery the same mobility as the tanks it supported, able to displace quickly after firing. British troops nicknamed it 'Priest' for the pulpit-like ring mount of its anti-aircraft machine gun, and it first saw combat with the British Eighth Army at El Alamein before equipping American divisions worldwide.
