Nicknamed the 'Queen of the Desert', the heavily armoured Matilda II was impervious to most Italian and early German anti-tank guns during Operation Compass, spearheading the destruction of Graziani's Tenth Army. It was the German discovery that the 88mm flak gun could kill it that shaped Rommel's later anti-tank tactics.
