Myoko-class cruiser

heavy cruiser

The first cruisers Japan built that exceeded the Washington Naval Treaty's 10,000-ton limit, the four Myoko-class ships carried the heaviest gun and torpedo armament of any cruiser afloat when built. They fought in nearly every major surface action of the Pacific War, from the Java Sea to Leyte Gulf, and three of the four were eventually sunk.
