SG-43 Goryunov
medium machine gun
Introduced in 1943 to replace the ageing, water-cooled M1910 Maxim, the air-cooled SG-43 was lighter, faster to bring into action and far simpler to manufacture, letting Soviet industry re-equip machine-gun companies just as offensive operations began to demand more mobile firepower.
