Type VII submarine
attack submarine (U-boat)
The most numerous U-boat class of the war, the Type VII (chiefly the VIIC variant) hunted Allied convoys in 'wolfpacks' across the North Atlantic. Roughly three-quarters of the class were eventually lost, reflecting a campaign that at its height in 1943 turned decisively against the Kriegsmarine.
