DP-27 (Degtyaryov machine gun)
light machine gun
Recognisable by its flat pan magazine sitting atop the receiver, the DP was the standard section support weapon of Soviet rifle squads through the whole war, earning the nickname 'record player' from its troops for the drum's resemblance to a gramophone disc. It was simple, tolerant of mud and cold, but prone to overheating in sustained fire.
