Zuikaku
aircraft carrier
The last of the six Pearl Harbor carriers still afloat by late 1944, Zuikaku fought through nearly every major carrier battle of the war alongside her sister Shokaku. With Japan's carrier air groups gutted after the Philippine Sea, she was used deliberately as bait at Leyte Gulf, luring the American fleet north and away from the invasion beaches before being sunk by carrier aircraft on 25 October 1944.
