medium tank

Italy's principal medium tank in North Africa, the riveted M13/40 was mechanically unreliable and its riveting sprayed lethal fragments inside the hull when struck. It equipped the Ariete and Littorio armoured divisions and was largely destroyed as a fighting force by the retreat after Alamein.
