Mitsubishi Ki-21
heavy bomber
The Imperial Army's principal heavy bomber for most of the war, the Ki-21 struck Chinese cities in the late 1930s and led the air assault on the Philippines and Burma in 1941-42. Codenamed Sally, it carried a respectable bomb load but light defensive armor left it exposed once Allied fighters improved, and it was steadily relegated to transport and training duties by 1944.
