MP 40

submachine gun

Issued mainly to squad leaders, paratroopers and vehicle crews rather than every rifleman, the folding-stock MP 40 became so visually iconic that popular memory (and Hollywood) wrongly arms whole German platoons with it. Its compact size suited the close-quarters street fighting of Stalingrad and later Warsaw.
