Panther
medium tank
Developed as a direct response to the T-34, the Panther combined sloped armour with a long, high-velocity 75mm gun that could kill Soviet tanks at long range, but it was rushed into combat at Kursk with unreliable transmissions and final drives that caused heavy mechanical breakdowns before it saw the enemy. Once its early faults were worked out it was arguably the best all-round tank of the war.
