Bomber Command's principal night bomber, the four-engined Lancaster carried the largest bomb loads of the war, including the 10-tonne Grand Slam. Modified aircraft of 617 Squadron carried Barnes Wallis's bouncing bombs against the Ruhr dams in 1943, and Lancasters formed the backbone of the fire-raids on Hamburg and Dresden.
