A Russian-built derivative of Hiram Maxim's water-cooled machine gun, dating to the Tsarist army and typically wheeled into action on the distinctive Sokolov mount, the PM M1910 remained the Red Army's primary heavy machine gun through the war's hardest years before the lighter SG-43 began replacing it in 1943.
