German unconditional surrender and VE Day
7 May 1945 – 8 May 1945
General Jodl signed the unconditional surrender of all German forces at Eisenhower's headquarters in Reims at 02:41 on 7 May, effective 23:01 Central European Time on 8 May. A second signing before Zhukov in Berlin followed on the night of 8 May at Soviet insistence. 8 May was celebrated as Victory in Europe Day in the west.
VE Day: Churchill broadcasts at 15:00; Keitel signs the ratification at Karlshorst near midnight.
