The Lueneburg surrender freed Denmark on 5 May; British troops reached Copenhagen the same day. The 350,000-strong German garrison in Norway laid down its arms on 8 May without fighting. Crown Prince Olav returned to Oslo on 13 May and King Haakon on 7 June.
