T-34

medium tank

The T-34 combined sloped armour, a powerful 76.2mm gun and wide tracks in a package Soviet industry could mass-produce even as factories were evacuated east of the Urals. German crews who met it in 1941 found their standard anti-tank guns bounced off its glacis plate. The definitive T-34-85 variant, with an enlarged three-man turret and 85mm gun introduced in 1944, restored the tactical edge lost as German armour improved, and together the family became the most-produced tank of the war.
