Type 99 Light Machine Gun
light machine gun
Firing the same powerful 7.7mm round as the Type 99 rifle, this top-loading light machine gun with a quick-change barrel provided the backbone of Japanese squad firepower in island defenses. It equipped fortified positions from Guadalcanal through Okinawa alongside older Type 96 models. Its curved 30-round magazine and distinctive muzzle brake made it instantly recognizable to Allied troops.
