Hurricanes flown off carriers were the mainstay of Malta's air defence through the worst of the siege before Spitfires arrived, and 'Hurribombers' and tank-busting variants supported the desert army throughout. Rugged and easy to repair, it remained in front-line desert service well after being outclassed over Europe.
