LCVP (Higgins boat)

The wooden-hulled Higgins boat with its drop-front ramp put a platoon of infantry or a jeep straight onto the beach and was built by the tens of thousands, carrying the first waves ashore at Sicily, Salerno and Anzio. Eisenhower called its designer Andrew Higgins 'the man who won the war for us'.
